Meet the Horses
Here are the Lambourn RDA horses:
Wispa is 13 years old and he is 15 hands high. On his passport he is described as grey, but his colour has caused a lot of debate because he has ‘freckles’ of brown on his coat. When the RDA bought him in the summer of 2012, the vet suggested we describe his colour as painted, which is very like the horses the Red Indians used to ride in the ‘Wild West’ in America! He also has one blue eye and one brown eye, so Wispa is a very special pony.
Wispa has fitted into Lambourn RDA very well and is giving a lot of enjoyment to his new riders.
Tommy - More information and photo to follow.
Barney is a Norwegian Fjord Horse and he is 19 years old (2013). He is very kindly on loan to Lambourn RDA. The Fjord horse is one of the world's oldest and purest breeds. Horses were known to exist in Norway at the end of the last ice age!!
Barney has taken to his RDA riding sessions very well and is proving to be a great favourite. He has also been trained to pull a carriage and has recently passed his RDA Assesment.
Beamish is the perfect child’s pony and is affectionately known as ‘The pocket rocket’! He is a flea bitten grey, about 12hh and is 21 years old. As well as the RDA, Beamish loves to get out and about and enjoys show jumping.
Drummer is 21 years old and is a black Shetland pony. He is used for riding and driving and regularly ‘dresses up’ for fancy dress competitions, the Lambourn Carnival and at Christmas time. He is a kind gentle pony, ideal for our smaller riders and loves to be groomed and pampered.
Haffy is a 13 year old Haflinger and he is 14.1hh. He is a light chestnut colour with a beautiful long flowing flaxen main and tail. Haffy is one of the newest of our RDA ponies and he has proven himself invaluable in a very short time. The breed is known for its placid temperament and its desire to please and Haffy has certainly adapted to the task with ease.
He has also just passed his Carriage Driving Assesment. Well done Haffy!!
Hogan is 19 years old. He is a 16hh, heavy draught horse, who is kindly on loan to the RDA. He is a skewbald, gentle giant with a patient and consistent temperament, ideal for all our activities. When Hogan is ‘off duty’ he also enjoys the sound of the hunting horn!
Ranger is a 16 year old skewbald and is 13.3hh. He is a real character and loves to pick up bean bags when we play gymkhana games. As Alex says "He is good when he is good". He enjoys going out for a hack and can be very forward going.
Stan is now on loan to the RDA. He is 15 years old and is a black welsh cross and is 15.3hh.
Stan is a lively ride and although he is not suitable for all our riders, he is perfect for developing riding independence for our more able riders.
